GAME DAY EXPECTATIONS & PROCEDURES
Game Communication: The Referee shall call his/her partners at least 24 hours in advance to coordinate travel, arrival to game, etc.
Game Time Arrival: Officials shall arrive at all varsity level games one hour before the scheduled game time. Officials shall arrive at all Sub-Varsity games at least a half hour before the scheduled game time.
Pregame Conference: The Referee shall conduct a pre-game discussion with his/her partners to go over key information for the game.
Captains Meeting: The crew shall meet with captain/s from each team before the 10 minute mark before the game begins.
Coach’s Meeting: The crew shall speak to each coach prior to the game starting to ask them if their players are legally equipped. (The Referee will include this in his/her pregame conversation with his/her partners as to when this communication will take place with the coaches)
Dress: Officials will arrive at games dressed professionally. (Business Casual)
Mechanics / Signals: Officials will only use approved NFHS mechanics and signals while officiating games.
Reporting Technical Fouls, Ejections, Helpful Information: The official that gives a technical foul to a coach shall communicate with the SUOA Director of Officials on the night of the game providing detailed information about the technical. The official who ejects a player or coach shall communicate with the SUOA Director of Officials on the night of the game providing detailed information about the ejection. Also, the official who ejects a player or coach shall communicate with the UHSAA by filling out the ejection report found online at www.suoa.org or www.uhsaa.org Any official that has helpful information regarding a game incident shall communicate with the SUOA Director of Officials in a timely manner. Examples of helpful information include but are not limited to the following: Facilities management issues, partner issues, Fan issues, weird game situations, etc, etc. Please report anything you feel would be helpful for the Director of Officials to know. Remember that as officials we are a team. Information is king when it comes to helping each other resolve issues that may come up throughout the season. Also remember that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Let’s have each others backs.
